What this is

HouseChores is a shared chore board for a household. You create a home, invite the people in it, and the app distributes the work according to what each person can take on.

HouseChores is offered by a company in the United States, to people in the United States. If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or elsewhere, you may use it, but it is not designed for the rules of your country, and your data is held in the United States.

By signing in, joining a home, or buying HouseChores Plus, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use HouseChores.

Your account

• You need an email address to sign in, and you must be 13 or older to have an account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will delete it and the information it holds. A younger child's first name may appear on a board as the person a chore is for; that child has no account with us.
• Keep access to your email secure — sign-in links go there, so whoever reads your email can reach your account.
• One person, one account. Do not share sign-in with someone who should have their own place on the board.

Who is responsible for a home

The person who creates a home is responsible for it and for the people they invite. If you are under 18, you use HouseChores as a member of a home run by an adult, and that adult agrees to these terms on the home's behalf.

Creating a home, and buying HouseChores Plus, assume you are 18 or older, or that a parent or guardian has agreed to your doing so. We take that on trust and do not check; a parent may give that permission without telling us.

Everything on a home's board is part of that home. The person who owns the home decides what happens to the board, including deleting it, and that authority passes with the home if it is handed on. Your own account, and your right to have your name and history removed, stay yours.

Households, admins, and guests

Whoever creates a home administers it: they can add and remove chores, invite people, set how work is shared, and make someone else an admin. Everyone else is a member of that home.

A home can also be handed to another admin, who has to accept it. From then on they own it — including the right to ask us to delete it — and the person who set it up stays on as an ordinary admin.

Two things worth being explicit about, because they surprise people:

• An admin can see and change everything on their board, including your assignments and what you have marked done. A household board is a shared document, not private space.
• A household can never be left with no admin. The app will not allow it.

Belonging to any number of boards is free, permanently. A child between two homes, a teenager helping at a relative's house, or a carer covering two households are guests on someone else's board — they run nothing and pay nothing. HouseChores Plus is bought by the person who owns a home and covers the homes they own; nobody pays for belonging.

What the points mean — and what they do not

HouseChores counts chores. It does not grade people.

Points are a tally and a way of recognising effort. They are not a score you can pass, fail, or lose, and the product does not rank members against each other. If you are looking for a leaderboard, this is not that product, deliberately.

How the app distributes work is a suggestion based on what each person can take on. It is not a judgment about anyone, and it has no authority in your household beyond what you give it.

What you agree not to do

• Use HouseChores to harass, coerce, or monitor someone.
• Add someone to a board who has not agreed to be there.
• Use HouseChores to promote a business, run a marketing campaign, or solicit other people who use it. It is a household's board, not an audience.
• Break into, overload, or probe the service, or try to reach another household's data.
• Resell or redistribute the service.

Your content

Your chores, names, notes, and messages are yours. You give MASONBYTE LLC only the permission needed to run the service — to store your data, show it to your household, and back it up. We claim no ownership and will not use it to train anything or sell it on.

HouseChores Plus

HouseChores Plus is a paid subscription that adds room and features to the homes you own. It is not on sale yet. When it is, these are its terms:

• Price. The price is shown before you pay, in US dollars. Sales tax, where it applies, is added at checkout.
• Renewal. Plus renews automatically at the end of each period, monthly or yearly, until you cancel. You will be told this again on the checkout screen and on your receipt.
• Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from Manage this home. You keep Plus until the end of the period you have paid for. Nobody and no chore is removed when Plus ends; photos and voice notes stay readable for 90 days after it ends, then they are removed.
• Refunds. If Plus is not for you, write to us within 7 days of a charge and we will refund it in full.
• If a payment fails we will try again for 7 days. After that your home returns to Free until it succeeds. Nobody and no chore is removed, and photos and voice notes follow the same 90-day rule as cancelling.
• Price changes. We will tell you at least 30 days before a price change takes effect, and you can cancel before it does.
• Who buys it. Only the person who owns a home buys Plus for it, and it covers every home that person owns. It does not follow an admin onto a home they help run but do not own.
• Payments are handled by Stripe, on Stripe's own pages. We never see your card number; we keep a record of your subscription and its status.

What we promise, and what we do not

HouseChores is offered as it is. We do not promise it will always be available or free of errors, and we make no other warranty about it, as far as the law lets us say so. Reminders, due dates, and the way work is shared out are suggestions your household controls. It is a chore board — please do not rely on it for anything where failure would matter, such as medication schedules or medical care.

We decide what HouseChores does and how it changes, and we may add, alter, or remove features at any time. Using it does not entitle anyone to a feature, a change, a priority, or a response to a request, and we are not obliged to build or keep anything for a particular household.

Nothing in this section limits the rights you have under the law of where you live, including your rights over your own data, which are set out in the Privacy Policy and on Deleting your account and data.

Ending it

You can stop using HouseChores at any time and ask us to delete your account.

We may suspend or end an account, or a household, that breaks these terms or uses HouseChores for something other than running a home. Where we can, we will say why. A household we end for breaking these terms is deleted, and we are not obliged to provide a copy of it first. If that household had Plus, the subscription ends with it and no further charge is made.

A home nobody has used for 120 days may be deleted, after we email and ask. How long we keep data, and when a quiet household is deleted, is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Legal

Our responsibility to you is limited. As far as the law allows, MASONBYTE LLC is not responsible for indirect losses — a missed chore, a lost day, a disagreement in your household, or anything that follows from one — and our total responsibility to you for anything connected to HouseChores is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or $100. Some places do not allow limits like these, so they apply only as far as the law where you live permits.

Your responsibility to us. If someone brings a claim against MASONBYTE LLC because of content you put on a board, or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover the costs of that claim. This applies to what you did, not to what other people in your household did.

Which law, and which court. These terms are governed by the law of the State of Maryland. Before either of us goes to court, we agree to write to the other and allow 30 days to sort it out. If that does not work, any dispute is heard by the state courts of Prince George's County, Maryland, or by the federal court in Maryland, and you and we both agree to those courts. You may instead bring a claim in a small-claims court where you live, if it qualifies there. These terms do not ask you to give up your right to go to court or to bring a claim together with other people — there is no arbitration clause and no class-action waiver.

Changes to these terms. When these terms change, the date at the top changes, and for anything that matters we tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use HouseChores after that date is agreeing to the new terms.

The rest. If a court finds part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and MASONBYTE LLC about HouseChores.
